3. Molasses Cookies
Ingredients List:
- 3/4 cup softened unsalted butter
- 1 cup of sugar, granulated
- One-fourth cup molasses
- One big egg
- Two cups of all-purpose flour
- two tsp of baking soda
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- one tsp finely ground cinnamon
- one tsp finely chopped ginger
- half a teaspoon of powdered cloves
- Extra powdered sugar to roll with
Step By Step Guidelines:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), and place parchment paper on baking sheets.
2. Using a large bowl, beat together 1 cup granulated sugar and softened butter until frothy and light.
3. Beat the butter-sugar mixture thoroughly until smooth before adding the molasses and egg.
4. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger in a another basin.
5. Mixing until just incorporated, gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet components. Avoid over-mixing.
6. To make the dough easier to handle, chill it in the refrigerator for approximately half an hour.
7. Scoop out dough parts the size of a tablespoon and shape them into balls. To ensure equal coating, roll each ball in granulated sugar.
8. Leaving space between each cookie, place the covered dough balls on the baking sheets that have been prepared.
9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are firm, in a preheated oven. The centers can still appear a little mushy.
10. Let the cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets, then move them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
These molasses cookies taste warm and spicy, and they have a deliciously chewy texture. They're ideal for the winter and go great with a steaming hot tea or coffee. Enjoy yourself!
